An impressive "Obi(帯)" with purple curves rippling at regular intervals called "tatewaku (立涌)" and paulownia, whichi is "Kiri(桐)" flowers drawn within them. It is said to be a pattern of rising steam implying there comes a sign of improvements at right time. In ancient times, paulownia flowers, along with chrysanthemums, were a noble pattern that only the imperial family could use n old days. It is a kimono pattern that is widely used and still represents high class.mood. This "Obi(帯)" is with "Tsuta-mon(蔦文)" of the vine plant motif which stands for enduring prosperity and "Kikko-mon(亀甲文)" of the turtle motif which igood luck, weaved into geometrical patterns. It seems "Tsuta-mon(蔦文)" was one of the most popular motif for Samurai's family crest. Toukaido-gojyusantsugi Hodogaya-juku/東海道五拾三次 保土ヶ谷宿

浮世絵で有名な歌川広重の東海道五拾三次をモチーフとして作られた帯。武士を載せた駕籠が橋を渡っていく、その向こうに見えるのは保土ヶ谷宿。日本橋(東京)から三条大橋(京都)をつなぐ約500kmもある東海道の休憩地点として、宿泊所や食事処などがありとても賑わっていたそうです。 帯: - 帯締: 絹 帯色: 黄緑/茶色/灰色/金/銀 部品: ステンレス One frame of the famous Ukiyo-e work, 53 Stations of the Tokaido (東海道五拾三次) by Hiroshige Utagawa( 歌川広重), published in 1833 late Edo-period, is sewn in this Obi. 'Tokkaido', conecting Edo (Tokyo)-Kyoto for 500km, is one of the five main roads developed during the Edo-period (1603-1868). There were 53 inn towns on Tokkaido, and this obi's graphical mottif is one ordinary scene at the 4th inn town, Hodogaya-juku. A palanquin carrying a samurai is crossing the bridge, and Hodogaya-juku is showing up closer on the other side.Those inn town were crowded with travellers, looking for inns, resaurants, or entertainments.
